Park, S. (2016, October 28). Misogyny in Hell-Joseon. Presented at the 20th SNU-UT Annual Symposium, Seoul.
I had such good memories of 2015 SNU-UT Annual Symposium, the joint symposium between Seoul National University and University of Tokyo, so I took part in the 2016 symposium, which was more meaningful than ever for the 20th anniversary.
The paper I presented is about the contemporary misogyny of South Korean society. I argue that the profoundly rooted colonialism and the resulting distorted nationalism, intertwined with widespread defeatism of young people, form the basis of today’s misogyny in Korea.
I also presented this study on 2017 ACCS(Asian Conference on Cultural Studies) and was honored to be the recipient of the Stuart D. B. Picken Grant and Scholarship.
