Hello and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Sojeong Park.

I am a Research Fellow at the Center for Hallyu Studies, Seoul National University, South Korea, working on a project titled “Ethno-mediascapes and Ethnic Sensitivity of South Korean Society.” I also work as a Lecturer at Seoul National University. I earned my Ph.D. in Communication from Seoul National University. The book titled “Mibaek: The Cultural Politics of Skin Color,” which is based on my dissertation, was released in 2022. It was selected as one of the 2022 Distinguished Scholarly Books by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea and is nominated for the 2023 ICAS Book Prize.

I am a cultural studies scholar whose interests span diverse aspects of popular culture and digital culture, with a focus on the way identity and intimacy are constructed and mediated by media. Recently I am interested in exploring the ethno-mediascape of South Korea and East Asia.

I have a deep passion for enjoying and discussing a diverse array of moving images, spanning from films and TV shows to YouTube videos and short clips. I find immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. Proud mother to Jay, an utterly adorable baby girl, and a devoted dog enthusiast striving to be the best companion to my Yorkie, Dallae.
